DVD "Esperanto is..." launched in Rotterdam

DVD "Esperanto is..." was officially launched on November 29, 2008, during the Open Doors Day in the Central Office of the World Esperanto Association (UEA) in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The UEA newsletter (no. 309) reported about the event:

"Especially awaited was the launch of "Esperanto is...", a DVD that presents Esperanto in a modern and lively manner to the public. The new film is fruit of an international cooperation within Esperanto @ Internet".

Thanks to a vast cooperation of voluntary translators, proofreaders and dubbers, the film includes subtitles in 20 languages (including Hebrew, Farsi and Occitan) and has been dubbed in 10 languages. Because of this extraordinarily high number of languages, it was necessary to divide them into 2 DVD disks, because a single disk could not contain all the languages.

It is not only the movie that is multilingual - also the DVD menu is available in 29 languages. This is extremely useful as it does not request any previous knowledge of Esperanto from the user.

Besides the movie itself, divided into 6 parts, the DVD contains also some extra interviews, sample music from concerts by Esperanto artists, photos and images used in the film.

The first issue was 2,000 copies of each version, i.e. 4,000 copies altogether. Shortly after the launch od the DVD, most of them were already reserved by associations and individuals from several countries. Mass orders may still be addresed to dvd@ikso.net. Single copies of the DVD may be bought in Esperanto bookshops (during Esperanto events, through the local Esperanto association such as Esperanto Association of Britain, Esperanto-USA and others.
